Effectiveness of a longitudinal analysis in human settlements of the Twenty-sixth of October District
Main Article Content
Abstract
Community policing mechanisms are key to mitigating social risks such as crime and emergencies. Therefore, this study analyzes the effectiveness of community policing mechanisms in mitigating social risks in the informal settlements of the Veintiséis de Octubre District, using a longitudinal approach to determine how informal social control and collective efficacy influence the reduction of criminal incidents and improve the perception of safety. The methodology employed a non-experimental, correlational design, utilizing victimization surveys and territorial audits processed with logistic regression models. The results revealed a 28% reduction in property crimes and a 35% reduction in emergency response times thanks to the use of information technologies and early warning networks. Neighborhood trust was identified as the main predictor of operational success, achieving greater crime deterrence in areas with high social capital. The study concludes that community policing is a driver of territorial resilience that requires robust multi-level coordination with the National Police and the municipality; however, it recommends strengthening the strategic framework through human rights training to ensure an ethical and sustainable intervention that transforms settlements into spaces of active citizenship and social peace.
