Abstract

Older adults face barriers to using ICT due to various social, psychological and physical factors. These include lack of experience, confidence and motivation, design and security difficulties, cost and relevance. To reduce the digital divide between generations, solutions are needed that consider the needs, preferences and capabilities of this group. Thus, their quality of life and social participation could be improved through ICT. The objective of this study was to determine the factors that limit the access and effective use of ICT by older adults, in order to promote their digital inclusion, improve their quality of life and encourage active participation in today's digital society. By consulting academic literature, it was concluded that ICTs are essential for older adults, but there are obstacles due to the digital divide and physical difficulties. These can be overcome with training, inclusion and digital literacy. However, the technological level and sociodemographic factors influence the adoption of ICT. Therefore, it is recommended to encourage active participation, medical and emotional care, and the recreational use of ICT. A multisectoral approach is needed to improve the digital inclusion of older adults.
