Abstract
The investigative scope of this article is to contribute to the dissemination of the basic elements of the positivist paradigm. In this sense, the present article has as essential foundation to make an analysis of the elements and structure of the positivist paradigm. Likewise, it contains a brief description of the components of the referred research paradigm, in terms of: ontology, epistemology, methodology. Finally, it is an exhortation to assume a clear ontoepistemic assumption to investigate a phenomenon, considering that it must be guided by the needs and requirements of a research study, which helps to understand the phenomena and/or problems that are addressed.
