Abstract

This research arose from the problems identified at the "Sagrada Familia" Medical Center, where health care services are provided and it has been shown that its personnel are exposed to rotating shifts, which predisposes them to the development of work stress, decreased productivity in their work environment, and countless implications in their personal and professional lives. The general objective of the project was: "To determine the influence that work shifts have on the development of stress in the healthcare personnel of the Sagrada Familia Medical Center. A population of 59 employees was investigated, including medical, nursing, laboratory, pharmacy and auxiliary service personnel. The research technique used was the survey, and the instrument was the questionnaire, in addition to the interview guide to the director of human talent. The results showed that: a large number of employees state that the fact of working rotating shifts affects their personal and work life, since they have to extend their working hours for an indefinite period of time, which leads to alterations in their sleep-wake schedules, a decrease in productivity and a tendency to develop psychological disorders. On the other hand, in spite of being fully aware of the alterations that may occur due to shift work, the necessary corrections are not made to help solve the problem, and the frequent training and evaluations required by the personnel are not carried out.
